Grand Central Terminal, New York

I don’t usually post train stations on here but Grand Central is just a beautiful building and worth a visit even if you aren’t getting a train from there.

Located in Midtown Manhattan it boasts 44 platforms and connects to the subway system as well. Construction took place between 1903 and 1913 and opened on 2nd February 1913. If I’m ever lucky enough to revisit I’ll remember to actually look at it from the outside. The main concourse is located on the upper platform level. There is a dining concourse and food stalls on the lower level. Many parts of the terminal feature sculpted oak leaves and acorns - a symbol of the Vanderbilt family whose family motto is “Great oaks from little acorns grow”.

You’ll find it used as a backdrop or reference in popular culture across many TV Shows and films including, but not limited to, North By Northwest, The French Connection, Superman, X-Men, I Am Legend, The Avengers all the way to Salinger’s The Catcher In The Rye.
