Another dip into last year's busy gig schedule and a special one for me featuring two acts that will always stand as foundations for my love of Hip Hop.
JVC Force's Strong Island was the first 12" vinyl I bought - back on release in Our Price at Lewisham. Since then the opening notes are a klaxon for me and other fans of Golden Age Hip Hop that a classic is about to drop. JVC Force hadn't played in the UK before so I'd waited from 1987 to 2025 to see them perform live.
Supporting at this gig was Blade. Now Blade deserves a whole blog post to himself and will get one. Suffice to say this wasn't the first time I'd seen him perform live but it had been a while. I remember him opening for Kool G Rap many years ago and putting in more energy and punch than the headliner. If you're a UK Hip Hop fan Blade needs no introduction - he's still repping the scene and helps to showcase up and coming acts at his social media pages. Also I'm forgetting the DJ line up here - Moe Love of Ultramagnetic MCs and DJ Random
I will upload some live footage samples from this show here - although Pritt Kalsi was present documenting the whole event so hopefully we get to see what his golden lens saw at some stage.
