The Shard, London Bridge

I've only ever known it as The Shard but I'm told this comes from "Shard of Glass" and it has also been known as the London Bridge Tower. A 72 storey skyscraper designed by Italian Renzo Piano and situated in Southwark.

It began construction in March 2009 and was completed in August 2013. Standing 309.6 metres or 1,016 ft it was the tallest building in the European Union as at December 2011. It was then overtaken by the Mercury City Tower. It is currently the UK's second tallest free standing structure after the 330 metre transmission tower at Emley Moor

I'm "cautious" of heights so not many photographs - wish I'd videoed the speedy lift ride up and more of the inside. These pictures are from late 2015.
